My strongest memory of Clark is from the graduation dance at the end of junior high. Everyone was having a great time dancing and talking. Clark just stood off by himself, watching it all “like a cat looks at a doorknob”, as my mother used to say… Looking at something he couldn’t figure out. It was as if there was this veil between him and fun, between him and us, and no matter how hard he hit it, he could never break through it. As if he could never touch anyone else…and we could never, ever touch him.
