Being a superhero is awesome, but being in a team of superheroes is even more awesome. Just make sure that when you form a team, you come up with a good team name, one that announces to everyone what you stand for. But most importantly, make sure the name hasn’t been taken yet or sounds similar to another.

Why the whole spiel about team names? Because I find it funny that Marvel and DC Comics both have groups in their respective universes that have similar-sounding names: Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Universe. Maybe it’s a coincidence, or perhaps one side decided to mess with the other by giving their team a similar-sounding name. Both groups have been featured in comics for a long time and just recently made their debut in the movies scene. In case you’re confused about the two, here is a quick guide on who they are and what they do.

Guardians of the Galaxy

These guys are called the Guardians of the Galaxy. They belong to Marvel, and they’re a bunch of ne’er-do-well misfits who banded together to save the galaxy. The original team was composed of Gamora, Groot, Adam Warlock, Quasar, Rocket Raccoon, and Drax the Destroyer, all recruited by Star-Lord with the purpose of being proactive in protecting the galaxy as opposed to simply reacting to crises. The team is based on a space station named Knowhere, which is actually a severed Celestial head equipped with a teleportation system. The Guardians of the Galaxy eventually reorganized itself with the present lineup that everyone is familiar with due to the blockbuster movie of 2014.

Guardians of the Universe

Now this group of fellows are called the Guardians of the Universe. They’re one of the most ancient beings in the DC Comics universe, where they’ve appointed themselves as enforcers of peace. Based on the planet Oa, which is supposedly the center of the universe, the Guardians discovered a way to harness the willpower energy of all living beings. They stored it in a central power battery and fashioned rings to channel and manipulate this amazing power. Deputizing 7200 individuals from 3600 space sectors with said power rings, the group that is famously known as the Green Lantern Corps became the Guardians’ instrument in keeping peace in the universe.
