For the first time in my life, I didn’t have my powers, and I felt what you must feel like, what everybody else must feel like — vulnerable, so vulnerable. At any moment you could get hit by a car, fall off a subway platform, get mugged…death and injury can come in a second. I knew that intellectually, but until today I never knew what that felt like. Everybody thinks I’m some kind of big deal, but losing my powers made me realize what courage humans have just to walk out the front door every day…how hard that must be…and how much the odds are against you–and I’m in awe. I’m in such awe of you…all of you.
